Edmonton, Kentucky is our tiny home town, with a population of only about 1,600. It's a lot like Mayberry, and we LOVE it. That parade was about noon, and we got third in the category for Decorated Vehicles. Cave City is about 45 miles NW of Edmonton, and it's the home of Mammoth Cave, so though a small town, it's also a 'tourist' area right on I65. Their parade was at 5 PM, so it was dark enough for the lights to look REALLY beautiful. They had NO separate category for vehicles, so we competed with ALL the FULL SIZED FLOATS to win our prize! I added quite a bit of stuff to the roof for the parades, and unlike Santa and his bag it was not high speed worthy, so I traveled the back roads from one parrade to the other, driving no more than 45 mph.

For those who have forgotten, "The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke curled around him....like a wreath...." (from The Night Before Christmas).

This Santa rode on our roof LAST year a total of about 10,000 miles, when we went to dog shows in Belleville, Wheaton, and Rosemont, The People's Republic of Illinois, and toured Chicago and IL. We also toured all over St. Louis, MO, Indiana, and Kentucky with him. So far this year, he has another 4,000 or so miles on him. This year, I've decided that there are just too many anti-smokers for him to get ALL THAT COAL delivered, so he's RUNNING LATE, and will stay on the roof for a tour right after the New Year of the North Eastern People's Republics of America. On my way up to Vermont to see my oldest daughter, son in law, and 5 of my grandkids, we'll probably cover KY, WV & VA (WDC area); and The People's Republics of MD, WDC, DE, RI, NJ, NY, CT, MA, VT, NH, ME, PA, and OH Watch for Santa any time after January 4, 2009.

We will continue this project in 2009, and until FREEDOM & PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS are RESPECTED & RESTORED EVERYWHERE IN THE USA.

THESE ISSUES WILL NEVER GO AWAY!

Some people have asked me what the art work is made of.

Earlier on, most of the decorations were contact paper & 'funky foam', and held on with carpet tape, and duct tape. It DOES come off, as I've been replacing quite a bit of it. : )
For the past year or more, a lot of the sections are covered in fabrics, including lame's. About a year and a half ago, I began trimming it with SILK FLOWERS, and it usually has lights on at night. I've been changing the flowers, lights, and trim with the seasons.

Some of the paint is acrylic, and a lot of it's fabric paint. The fabric paint comes in all sorts of interesting textures and with special effects - metallic, sparkles, etc, and seems to be extremely weather proof. I used lots of glitter, also. These pics really don't do justice to how pretty it looks. I've used florescent, and glow in the dark paints, so it shows up well at night also.

Most of it has held up amazingly well with all kinds of weather conditions - blizzards, -3 degrees, gale force winds, and torrential downpours. The foam stuff doesn't seem to like heat, though, and expands and gets bubbles when it's hot. I'm currently testing something to fix that. Yes, I do have supplies of my craft stuff with me, and have occasionally had to repair or replace something.

I have been obeying ALL traffic laws, and being polite to all. I have had ALMOST no trouble whatsoever with police or anyone else. If anything, drivers behind me have been giving me more room than usual - almost no one is tailgating. When I signal to change lanes, almost everyone backs off and makes room for me to go <G>. I'll bet my risk of someone stealing my van is WAY lower than before <VBG>. I do tend to make sure I'm parked where I can keep an eye on it, though, or have someone keep an eye on it for me, just in case anyone would attempt to vandalize it. Have not had any incidents like that yet. I always try to park in the location with best visibility, and most traffic.

Have been getting LOTS of waves, smiles, victory signs, cigarettes waved at me, thumbs up, and very very rarely a 'thumb down' (but all have seemed polite). I have now lost count of the number of folks who have said, 'I love what you're doing', and 'your van is awesome'. Occasionally we are getting outright cheers and applause! This IS NOT about 'me', though. It's about FREEDOM, and losing our country! I don't think I've EVER had so much fun. I highly recommend trying this to anyone else who has a bit of an 'adventuresome' spirit, and some creative abilities.

Of course, this is now 'hand wash' only <LOL>.

He must be getting VERY politically incorrect these days, as he's also FAT -- AND JOLLY!

For the parade, in addition to the multi colored Christmas lights running all around the silk flower (poinsettia and holly) trim, I added a string of long dangling blue and white BLINKING star lights to the sides and rear of the roof. These pictures really can't do justice to just how magically PRETTY it was.

The front and rear windows, and roof racks are trimmed in silk poinsettia and holly garlands, and many sparkly bunches of cut glass ornaments in red and white, plus tiny led multi colored Christmas Lights. There is sequined trim, and many beautiful ornaments from the huge Christmas store in Frankenmuth, Michigan. We were there for the Afghan Hound Club of America National Specialty (dog) show in September. Much of the lettering is hand painted in fabric paints, with
